Tinubu’s reforms boost economic growth, reduce poverty -Minister of Finance, Edun

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, has said that the reforms being implemented by the Bola Tinubu administration are driving economic growth and helping reduce poverty in the country.

Edun, who stated this while delivering a speech on behalf of members of the Federal Cabinet at the 8th National Convention of the All Progressives Congress noted that government policies have begun to stabilize the economy and improve overall confidence.

He stated, “According to my contacts, as we heard during prayers, there are currently 31 APC governors, whereas you started two and a half years ago with about 21 governors. Mr President, you have made Nigeria a more united country. And while we all believe in democracy, unity of purpose at this critical time will enable you to lead and push us further, especially in terms of economic improvement and poverty reduction.

“You were quoted as saying that you inherited the assets and liabilities of your predecessor, and that’s fair enough. But you face reality. For years, there was a disregard for economic reality that caused the economy to go in the wrong direction.

“We don’t have a local crude oil refinery. We don’t have a free market in foreign exchange or even petroleum products and so on. However, this means that we cannot eradicate poverty, and there are more and more mouths to feed, and poverty is not decreasing.

“With your courage to act, we, Mr. President, have faced a moment of reckoning. We did not continue with a broken system, and you took bold steps to fix it. So, by choosing to act, you chose courage over comfort, you chose reform over delay, and you chose Nigeria and the Nigerian people over politics. This was not an easy decision, but it was necessary.”

Edun stated that President Tinubu had reorganized the economy.

Speaking on behalf of the Progressive Governor, Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, said they gathered not only to fulfill their constitutional duties, but to celebrate the ever-growing movement in unity and democratic discipline.

He stated, ” Under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the direction is clearer. The logic of reform is stronger. And the prospects for long-term growth and development are brighter.

“What is needed for leadership is not just the ability to manage the present, but the wisdom to prepare for the future. And in this case, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown statesmanship.

“We also recognize that reform will only be meaningful if it touches lives. That is why the Progressive Governors Forum remains aligned with the New Hope agenda and is fully committed to its social progress.

“Across the states, we will continue to work with the Federal Government to advance policies and programs that promote economic opportunity, strengthen social protections, expand infrastructure, improve security, support businesses, empower youth and women, and restore confidence in public leadership.”

He noted that the APC must continue to be broad enough to accommodate diversity, disciplined enough to protect its values, and visionary enough to lead Nigeria through a changing world.

“Our party must continue to be a party broad enough to accommodate diversity, disciplined enough to protect its values, and visionary enough to lead Nigeria through a changing world.

“We must remain true to the progressive principles that define us: justice, inclusion, enterprise, accountability, and national renewal.”
