Atiku warns against sabotage of Dangote refinery project

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday, expressed concern over potential attempts to hamper the progress of the Dangote Refinery, a major private sector initiative poised to meet Nigeria’s energy and foreign exchange needs.

In a statement issued via his X account, Atiku drew an analogy between raising children and investing in a project, stressing the importance of prioritizing their development. He urged Nigerians to ensure that internal and external forces do not conspire to prevent the country from benefiting from the refinery.

It reads, “Every parent who eagerly anticipates the arrival of a child will dutifully take the necessary steps to ensure that the nurturing and development of this precious blessing remains the primary focus.

“This basic principle applies equally to investments, both local and international. With this understanding, I am wary of any deliberate attempt to hamper the progress of the Dangote Refinery, a critical private sector project positioned to meet our energy and foreign exchange needs.

“Together with many other well-meaning citizens, I call on all Nigerians to take decisive action to ensure that no internal or external forces conspire to prevent us from reaping the promised benefits of this much-anticipated transformative effort.”

Atiku’s call for action comes as the Dangote Oil Refinery, a multibillion-dollar project, nears completion. The refinery, owned by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, is expected to transform Nigeria’s energy landscape and boost its economy.

Atiku’s remarks suggested that there may be a deliberate attempt to sabotage the project, and he urged Nigerians to take a stand against such actions.
