The former senator who represented the Kaduna central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Shehu Sani, had urged the President of the Tinubu Bola to consider imposing a travel ban on Americans if President Donald Trump advanced to limit the Nigerians into the US.
Ripples Nigeria previously reported that the US had placed Nigeria along with 35 other countries on new visa restrictions.
A report brought by the Washington Post has stated that the internal memo signed by the Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has given directions for the imposition of visa restrictions from Wednesday.
The proposed restrictions, according to the report, are part of a broader executive order signed by Trump in early June, targeting countries with high incidents of terrorism threats, oversays visas, or identity verification systems that cannot be relied upon. Trump, during the national speech, framed the move as an important step for national security.
But Shehu, when reacting to the proposal in a post in the verified X grip, asked Tinubu to reply to the same as imposing a travel ban on Americans if Trump continued restrictions.
“The US must not prohibit Nigerians from traveling to their country. There is no reason to do that. We are not included in the category of countries that they consider to be a threat. But if they finally forbid us, our country must respond with the same movement,” Sani wrote.
“However, there are among us who respect our peace and dignity of our villages and mud houses rather than living in places where we are not welcomed,” he added.
