The Nigerian meteorological agency (Nimet) has foreseen floating and rainy weather activities throughout the nation from Monday to Wednesday 6 August 2025.
Nimet also warned possible sudden floods in some areas.
Nimet made this known through its meteorological prospects issued on Sunday 3 August.
The agency provided for morning thunderstorms on Monday with moderate rains in some parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina.
He said: “Later in the afternoon or in the evening hours, temporals with moderate rains are expected throughout the region.
“There is a high possibility of floods that occur on parts of the States of Adamawa, Taraba and Bauchi during the forecast.
“In the central region, there are prospects for light rains on Benue parts, The Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi and Nasarawa during the morning hours.
“In the afternoon or evening hours, the light rains are anticipated on parts of Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau, Niger, Benue and Federal Capital Territory.”
The agency included cloudy skies in the southern region with the possibility of light rain in some parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ogun, Edo, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa.
According to Nimet, light rains are expected in some parts of Abia, IMO, Ebonyi, Anambra, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States later on during the day.
The agency has anticipated the high possibility of floods that occur in some parts of Oyo, Ogun, Edo and Delta during the forecast.
Nimet has provided for morning thunderstorms in the northern region Tuesday with moderate rainfits in some parts of Taraba, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Kaduna and Zamfara.
He said: “Later during the day, temporal time with moderate rains are scheduled for the whole region.
“For the central region, there are prospects for intermittent rains of light on parts of the territory of the federal capital, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau and Benue during the forecast.
“The cloudy skies are expected on the southern region with prospects of intermittent light rains on Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom, during the forecast period.”
Nimet has also provided for a high possibility of flood in some parts of Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom during the forecast.
The agency includes thunderstorms on Wednesday morning with moderate rains in some parts of the states of Taraba and Kaduna.
Nimet provides isolated thunderstorms and moderate rains in some parts of Borno, Bauchi, Taraba, Kaduna, Gombe, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano and Adamawa, later during the day.
According to the agency, light rains are expected in some parts of Nasarawa, Niger and the territory of the federal capital in the morning hours of the central region.
He added: “In the afternoon or evening hours, intermittent light rains are expected on parts of the territory of the federal capital, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Plateau and Benue.
“For the southern region, cloudy skies are planned with intermittent light rains on parts of Ebonyi Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Edo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Cross River.
“Light rains are foreseen in the entire region further on during the day with a high possibility of flood on parts of the state of Bayelsa during the forecast.”
Nimet urged the public to avoid driving under strong rains and states with the possibility of sudden flooding to immediately activate the emergency response system.
The agency said: “Insure hot clothes for vulnerable people due to low night temperatures and make sure that the loose objects are fixed to avoid collisions.
“Disconnect the electrical appliances from the electrical outlets, stay away from high trees to avoid the impact from the fall branches and broken trees.
“Air operators to obtain specific weather reports from the airport (flight documentation) from Nimet for effective planning in their operations.”
