The South East Basketball Association (SEBA) will host a two-day regional tournament on May 15 and 16 at Ebonyi Mall, as part of efforts to deepen grassroots development and expand the game across the area.

The competition, which starts at 8am each day, is expected to feature teams from Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra and Abia states, with organizers promising a blend of emerging talent and competitive action.

One of the highlights of the event will be the inauguration of the Hon. Richard Idike Basketball Court, facilitated by the South East representative of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Ugo Udeze. The project aims to improve access to quality facilities and nurture young players in the state.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sport, the Hon. Richard Idike, will participate as a special guest, in what the organizers describe as a demonstration of institutional support for the development of sport in the region.

Udeze, which hosts the tournament, said the initiative goes beyond competition, stressing that it provides a platform for talent discovery and regional integration through sports.

According to him, the tournament is designed to stimulate interest in basketball at the grassroots level, while creating pathways for players to advance to higher levels of the game.
Fans are expected to flock to the event, which also serves as a meeting point for stakeholders looking to reposition basketball in the Southeast.
