Kwara Basketball Association to host inaugural secondary schools championship in Ilorin

The Kwara State Basketball Association (KSBA) will host the inaugural edition of the Secondary Schools Basketball Championship from May 6 to 9, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen the development of grassroots sports and discover young talents across the state.

The championship will be held at the outdoor basketball courts at the Kwara State Stadium Complex in Ilorin and is open to public and private secondary schools.

According to the secretary of the association, Bello Rotimi, the competition will have male and female categories and is mainly targeted at schools in Ilorin metropolis.

Rotimi explained that the initiative aims to identify promising players who can represent Kwara State in this year’s Youth Games and Intermediate Games.

Championship activities will begin on May 5 with a seminar and workshop for game masters, coaches and technical officials at the Pool Pavilion at 10:00 am

The workshop is expected to provide participants with knowledge on training techniques, rules of the game and athlete development, while the competition draws will take place immediately after the session.

The championship is organized by the Kwara State Basketball Association under the auspices of the Kwara State Sports Commission, with the support of the Kwara State Ministry of Education, Department of School Sports and Association of School Sports Officials (ASSPO).

Participating schools and stakeholders have been encouraged to take advantage of the competition to contribute to the growth and development of basketball in Kwara State.
