The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State on Thursday adopted Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as its consensus candidate for governorship ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The rally took place at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, and attracted a large turnout of party supporters despite a heavy downpour.
Prominent personalities at the event included members of the National Assembly and senior government officials.
APC Governorship Primary Election Committee Chairman Muntari Shagari said Yusuf returned as the party’s sole governorship candidate after fulfilling the constitutional requirements.
“I hereby declare that Abba Kabir Yusuf, having fulfilled the constitutional requirements of the APC, is affirmed and returned as the nominated candidate for Kano governorship for 2027,” Shagari said.
Earlier, Senator Barau Jibrin, representing Kano North Senatorial District, moved the motion for the adoption of Yusuf as the APC governorship flagbearer, while Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila of Kano South seconded the motion.
In his acceptance speech, Yusuf thanked the delegates for their support, patriotism and commitment to the party’s success ahead of the 2027 elections.
“I accept my nomination and endorsement by the APC delegates for the governorship election,” he said.
The governor also commended party supporters and stakeholders for ensuring the peaceful conduct of the operation and pledged to provide greater dividends to democracy if re-elected for a second term.
