Eid-el-Maulud: APC NLA Kankia urges Nigerians to continue supporting Tinubu’s reforms
From our journalist
Abuja (Key Reporters) The National Legal Adviser (NLA) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Murtala Aliyu Kankia, Esq. has called on Nigerians to continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and development reforms, while demanding accountability and measurable results from government.
Kankia made this appeal in his Eid-el-Maulud message to Muslims, urging Nigerians to recognize the progress recorded so far under the Tinubu administration and to continue to support policies aimed at repositioning the country’s economy.
He said the occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the values of justice, honesty, compassion, consultation and responsible leadership exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), stressing that these principles remain relevant to Nigeria’s political and governance challenges.
The APC NLA said the Renewed Hope Agenda should remain central to the country’s development efforts, particularly in the areas of economic reform, infrastructure, human capital development, security and social protection.
According to him, Nigerians should evaluate government policies based on their impact on livelihoods, economy, education, infrastructure, security and opportunities available to citizens, rather than on partisan considerations.
Kankia said the reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration are aimed at creating a stronger foundation for sustainable economic growth, urging citizens to support policies that promote national development by constructively demanding accountability from public officials.
“Leadership is a responsibility, not simply a privilege. The Renewed Hope agenda must continue to be driven by policies that improve the lives of Nigerians, while those in government must remain accountable to the people,” he said.
He called for sustained public support for the government’s efforts to strengthen the economy, expand infrastructure, improve education and skills development, strengthen national security and deepen social protection.
However, Kankia stressed that supporting government reforms should not equate to abandoning the responsibility of holding leaders accountable.
He urged public officials to remain sensitive to the needs of citizens and ensure that government policies result in tangible and measurable improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
Politics of 2027
As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the APC NLA has urged political actors to make the upcoming contest a battle of ideas, policies and development outcomes.
He warned politicians against using religious, ethnic or inflammatory sentiments to gain political advantage, stressing that national unity and stability should remain above individual ambitions.
Kankia also urged APC members, aspirants and supporters to pursue their political ambitions within the framework of law and democratic institutions.
He appealed to religious leaders to use their platforms to promote peaceful coexistence, responsible citizenship and tolerance, while discouraging hate speech, violence and political manipulation.
The APC legal chief cautioned Nigerian youths in particular against allowing themselves to be used as instruments of political violence, urging them to actively and peacefully participate in the democratic process.
He also called on Nigerians to pray for President Tinubu, other national leaders and for the peace and progress of the country.
Kankia said the lessons of Eid-el-Maulud should go beyond celebration, urging Nigerians to embrace justice, tolerance, compassion, patriotism and service to humanity.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria will approach the 2027 elections with greater political maturity, with candidates increasingly judged on their ideas, achievements and ability to deliver rather than divisive rhetoric.
“The ultimate measure of any government or political leadership should be its ability to improve the well-being of citizens and strengthen the future of the country,” he said.
Kankia congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud and prayed for peace, prosperity and stability across Nigeria.
“As we celebrate Eid-el-Maulud, let us remember that leadership is service. We must continue to champion what is good for Nigeria, demand accountability where needed and put national interest above personal and political ambition,” he added.
