Exclusive: Eguavoen Named Interim Coach Of Super Falcons

Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director Austine Eguavoen has been appointed interim coach of the Nigeria women’s senior team, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

The team was left without a coach following the decision of the former Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) board to sack coach Justin Madugu after failing to qualify for the world cup for the first time in the tournament’s history.

Ahead of the upcoming Olympic Qualifiers, Eguavoen will be in charge and assisted by Christopher Danjuma, who managed the Nigeria U20 team (Falconets) for multiple periods including the 2022 and 2024 World Cup cycles.

The Nigerian Super Falcons will begin their qualification campaign for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games against the Comoros, with both second-round playoff matches scheduled at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo.

The matches will be played on October 9 and 13, 2026, when Nigeria begins another attempt to secure one of Africa’s two places in the Olympic women’s football tournament.

Nigeria advanced to the second round as one of the highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition, while Comoros advanced after eliminating Sudan 30-0 on aggregate.

The Super Falcons returned to the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 after a 16-year absence and will look to make back-to-back appearances for the first time since competing at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.
