Galatasaray: Super Eagles coach Chelle clarifies comments on Osimhen transfer

Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has clarified his previous comments on Victor Osimhen’s possible departure from Galatasaray, insisting that the Nigerian striker is happy at the Turkish club and has no reason to be linked with an exit based on his comments.

Chelle said his previous comments about Osimhen’s future had been misinterpreted, stressing that he neither said the striker wanted to leave Galatasaray nor suggested he should move to another club.

The coach made this clarification after Nigeria’s 3-3 draw against Russia in the international friendly played in Nizhny Novgorod, as discussions over Osimhen’s future continued to attract attention.

“My previous comments regarding a possible transfer of Osimhen were misinterpreted. Victor loves Galatasaray and the club is happy with him,” Chelle said, according to Turkish publication Habersarikirmizi.

The clarification comes after the Super Eagles coach commented during the summer transfer window on the possibility of Osimhen moving from Galatasaray to a bigger club. His remarks have generated speculation about the striker’s long-term future in the Istanbul team.

Chelle praises the quality of Osimhen

The Nigerian coach reiterated his admiration for the striker, calling him one of the best strikers in world football.

“I consider Osimhen one of the best strikers in the world. When a player plays at this level, there are always transfer rumors surrounding him,” Chelle said.

He argued that speculation about a player of Osimhen’s caliber was to be expected given the attention his performances attract, adding that his previous statements should not be interpreted as an indication that the forward was seeking a transfer.

“I never said he wanted to leave the club or that he should leave,” Chelle added.

The future of Osimhen attracts attention

Osimhen has established himself as one of Nigeria’s leading footballers, with his performances for club and country making him a regular subject of transfer speculation.

His future at Galatasaray has continued to attract interest, especially whenever comments from football figures raise doubts about the possibility of a move to another European club.

Chelle’s latest statements appear intended to clarify the controversy surrounding her previous comments and to reaffirm that her stance was not an invitation for the striker to leave Galatasaray.

The Super Eagles manager’s clarification also highlights the distinction between discussing the potential career progression of an elite footballer and stating that the player is unhappy at his current club.

Neither the original comments, as presented in the available report, nor Chelle’s subsequent clarifications demonstrate that Osimhen has requested a transfer from Galatasaray.
