AGPC Hires Presidential Advisor and Highlights Operational Success of Gas Processing Plant – THISAGE

The Chief Executive Officer of ANOH Gas Processing Company (AGPC), James Makinde, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy security and gas-led economic growth.

Leading a delegation of senior executives on a recent visit to the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Mrs. Olu Verheijen, the AGPC helmsman provided strategic updates on the performance of the company’s gas processing plant, one of Nigeria’s flagship gas infrastructure projects.

Discussions focused on the plant’s operational performance, its contribution to the domestic gas market and its role in advancing the federal government’s Decade of Gas initiative and broader energy transition objectives.

AGPC, a 50/50 joint venture between Seplat Energy Plc and Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC), a subsidiary of NNPC Limited, was established to develop and operate the ANOH gas processing plant, located in Imo State.

Makinde informed the Presidential Advisor that the plant, designed to process approximately 300 million standard cubic feet of wet gas per day (300 MMscfd) from the ANOH field in OML 53, has successfully transitioned to commercial operations and is steadily increasing production.

He noted that, since commissioning, the plant has continued to demonstrate stable, safe and reliable operations and is currently processing approximately 150 million cubic feet during its initial stabilization phase, with a clear roadmap towards achieving its full design capacity.

“The successful start-up and continued upgrading of the ANOH gas processing plant represents a significant milestone, not only for AGPC but also for Nigeria’s aspiration to unlock its vast gas resources for industrialisation, power generation and economic development,” Makinde said.

He also highlighted the plant’s growing contribution to both domestic and export-oriented gas markets.

Processed gas is currently being supplied to the Indorama petrochemical plant in Rivers State to support industrial activities, while further volumes are transported through the OB3 pipeline infrastructure for delivery to Nigeria’s LNG, thus strengthening the nation’s integrated gas value chain.

In response, Verheijen commended the AGPC for the successful delivery and operation of the project, describing the facility as a strategic national asset that aligns with the federal government’s vision of harnessing natural gas as a catalyst for economic diversification, industrial growth and greater energy security.

He reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investments that expand gas infrastructure, intensify the use of domestic gas and improve the country’s competitiveness in the global energy landscape.

The ANOH gas processing plant also plays a critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s gas transportation network through its connection to the OB3 pipeline system, enabling wider distribution of processed gas to power generation companies and industrial customers across the country.

The AGPC reiterated its continued commitment to operational excellence, world-class health, safety and environmental standards, regulatory compliance, Nigerian content development and sustainable stakeholder engagement.

The company also reaffirmed its commitment to creating long-term value for its shareholders, host communities and the Nigerian economy.

The AGPC said it remains strategically positioned as a key enabler of Nigeria’s gas-powered future, supporting the nation’s ambition to drive industrialisation, improve access to energy and promote sustainable economic development through the responsible use of its abundant natural gas resources.
