APC Primary Crisis: Daniel Camp Alleges Plot to Spark Violence in Ogun East

Fresh tension has gripped the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State ahead of the Ogun East senatorial primaries, as loyalists of former governor, Gbenga Daniel, raised the alarm over alleged plots to unleash violence and suppress voters during the exercise.

Obese members, under the aegis of APC stakeholders in Ogun East Senatorial District, in a petition dated May 13, 2026, accused allies of Governor Dapo Abiodun of orchestrating targeted intimidation and harassment of alleged supporters of Daniel in the nine local government areas of the district.

The petition, addressed to APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, warns that the direct primaries scheduled for May 18 could degenerate into chaos if urgent intervention is not made.

According to the group, several party members loyal to Daniel were barred from attending ward meetings, a development they said was driven by some party leaders acting on instructions from the state leadership.

They also said threats had been issued to dissuade affected members from participating in the primaries, describing the situation as a “serious violation” of democratic norms and the party’s constitution.

The signatories also expressed concern over what they described as intelligence reports regarding plans to mobilize thugs to disrupt voting at designated centres, warning that such moves could lead to violence, voter suppression and the breakdown of law and order.

They warned that any failure to resolve the situation could damage the credibility of the APC and undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

The group called on the Ogun State APC Chairman, Yemi Sanusi, together with other party leaders at the state, local government and district levels, to rein in erring members and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants.

They also urged security agencies, including the police, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, to immediately investigate the allegations and provide adequate security to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The signatories stressed the need for the party’s national leadership to act quickly and deploy credible, neutral officials to oversee the primaries in the 103 senatorial district’s wards.

“As one stroke saves nine, urgent intervention is needed to preserve peace, fairness, and public trust in the electoral process,” the petition reads in part.

Efforts to get responses from the Ogun State Government and the APC leadership in the state have been unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
