Bode George demands credible elections in 2027

Former National Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South, Chief Bode George, said on Friday that Nigeria’s electoral process must remain credible during the 2027 general elections.

George, former military governor of Ondo State, made the remarks in an open letter to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos.

“I must emphasize that the integrity of our election process must remain sacred.

“There must be no manipulation of any kind by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in any form or manner.

“The wishes of the Nigerian people must be realized freely, transparently and without interference.

“Anything less will undermine democracy and risk eroding the foundations of our nation’s unity and legitimacy.

“May God give you the wisdom to understand the truth, the humility to act, and the strength to lead rightly,” George wrote.

He warned that interference in the electoral system would undermine democracy and undermine national unity and legitimacy.

According to him, Nigeria’s stability, unity and democratic future appear to be under pressure.

“I speak from conviction, experience, and obligation to truth, not anger or partisanship, but sincere patriotism and faith in Almighty God.

“What is happening in our political space today raises great concerns. Democracy cannot survive if the opposition is systematically weakened, ridiculed or neutralized.

“A state governed without credible dissent is unstable; it is volatile.

“What sustains leadership is trust, which is built on fairness, equality, transparency and justice. Currently, that trust is under pressure.

“Leadership requires the courage to hear the truth, not just loyalty,” added the PDP leader.
