Crescent University owner joins Abeokuta Polo Club as pioneer member

The owner and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Crescent University, Abeokuta, Prince Ma’ruf Adesegun Ajibola (SAN), has been inducted as a pioneer member of the Abeokuta Polo Club during the club’s first anniversary celebration.

Ajibola was decorated alongside nine other new members by the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, at the anniversary and installation ceremony held at Park Inn by Radisson, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Speaking at the event, the Founder and President of Abeokuta Polo Club, Dr Sheriff Adams Abdulrahman, said the club, within a year of its establishment, had made giant strides to become a world-class institution built on excellence, integrity, friendship and equestrian heritage.

He said the vision of the club has evolved into a vibrant community dedicated to promoting the game of polo, contributing to the socio-economic development of Ogun State.

Abdulrahman described the induction ceremony as a celebration of the pioneering members whose commitment and support laid the foundation for the club’s growth and future.

According to him, the club has extended its impact beyond sports by training 120 youth in digital technology and artificial intelligence, adding that it will continue to create employment opportunities for youth.

“The event is not only to celebrate our first anniversary, but also to honor our pioneer members whose trust and commitment laid the foundation for an enduring legacy,” he said.

Also, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola, said the establishment of the Abeokuta Polo Club would enhance the profile of Abeokuta, Ogun State and Nigeria.

He noted that the club will enhance the ambience of the city and set a new standard for premium recreational facilities in the state.

“It is a premium club that will build standards and bring prestige not only to Abeokuta but also to Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole,” the monarch said.

Highlights of the ceremony included the presentation of special recognition awards to the wife of former Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, and the Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Oluwasesan Fagbayi.

Other dignitaries present at the event included the Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, the Orunto of Owu kingdom, Chief Abiodun Lasile, as well as prominent members of the traditional establishment of the state.

Ajibola attended the ceremony with a delegation from Crescent University, including the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila; the Deputy Vice-Rector, Prof. Rasaki Kareem; the Chancellor, Prince Zakariyya Ajibola; the Bursar, Alhaji Gbadebo Ogunmefun; and Principal Deputy Registrar, Public Relations, Mr. Idris Katib.
