The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has tasked senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to adopt proactive, intelligence-led and adaptive policing measures to address the nation’s evolving security challenges.
The allegation was made during the monthly conference with senior strategic officers of the Force, held on Tuesday at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, headquarters of the Force, in Abuja.
Addressing the officers, the IGP highlighted the various security threats facing the country, including kidnappings, armed robberies, cult-related violence, terrorism, banditry, farmers-herders conflicts and cyber crimes.
He stressed that the dynamic nature of security threats requires stronger leadership, better interagency coordination and more effective operational responses to ensure law enforcement agencies remain one step ahead of criminal elements.
Disu said the Nigeria Police Force must continue to embrace intelligence-led policing and proactive strategies that can respond to emerging security concerns in different parts of the country.
According to him, maintaining public trust and ensuring national security largely depend on the Force’s ability to anticipate threats and respond effectively to criminal activities.
The IGP also revealed that the Force has recorded major operational successes since its last strategic conference in May 2026.
Providing an analysis of recent findings, he said police officers arrested eight terrorist suspects, fifty-five kidnapping suspects, sixty-five armed robbery suspects, twenty-nine murder suspects and forty-two cultist suspects through coordinated operations conducted nationwide. He further revealed that eighty-eight kidnapped victims were successfully rescued during various operations.
Additionally, security personnel recovered one hundred and fourteen firearms, eight hundred and forty-three rounds of ammunition and twenty-eight stolen vehicles linked to criminal activities across the country.
Disu described the results as a reflection of the dedication and commitment of police personnel in fighting crime and improving public safety nationwide. He urged senior officers to sustain the momentum by strengthening operational effectiveness, improving intelligence gathering and ensuring policing strategies remain proactive and reactive to emerging threats.
The monthly strategic conference is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to assess security developments, improve inter-command coordination and improve operational outcomes in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
The conference brought together Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs), Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), Commissioners of Police (CPs) and other senior officers to review the security situation across the country and evaluate ongoing operational strategies
