Governor Monday Okpebholo has strongly condemned the daytime killing of an unidentified youth by suspected gunmen at the main gate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Sunday, describing it as an attack on human dignity and a grave threat to public safety.
In a statement released on Monday by his Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, Governor Okpebholo expressed deep shock and outrage over the violent incident. He stressed that such killings would not be tolerated under his administration.
The governor also expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones. He reassured the public that the police have already launched an investigation into the matter and that all relevant security agencies are working tirelessly to arrest the perpetrators.
Governor Okpebholo assured citizens that justice will be done, stressing that the case will not be ignored. He promised that the guilty would be brought to justice.
Addressing the issue further, the governor reiterated his government’s commitment to eradicating the cult, highlighting ongoing security efforts, collaboration with law enforcement and programs aimed at rehabilitating at-risk youth. Okpebholo stressed that the State will not allow criminals to thrive and urged the public to provide any useful information that may assist in investigations, assuring that all details shared will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
