INEC transferred Gombe by-election materials to the LGA ahead of Saturday’s election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun disseminating sensitive election materials for Saturday’s by-election in Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State.

The materials were distributed on Friday at the Central Bank of Nigeria office in Gombe, before finally being distributed to polling stations across the constituency.

The exercise was witnessed by representatives of political parties, members of the Inter-Agency Deliberative Committee on Election Security, security forces, CBN officials and journalists.

The election is scheduled for Saturday, 19 September 2026, with 495,851 registered voters expected to participate in the poll across federal constituencies.

Speaking after the distribution, Gombe State Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Umar Muktar Gajiram, confirmed that the sensitive material had been sent to the local government areas concerned.

He said the material would then be distributed to each polling station before voting.

According to Gajiram, the exercise, which was attended by political parties, security agencies and other stakeholders, was part of INEC’s efforts to increase transparency and strengthen public confidence in the election process.

The REC also explained that signatures and endorsements placed on sensitive materials by the commission are part of the authentication procedures.

He said the process is designed to ensure that only certified materials are used during elections.

As preparations for the election continue, Gajiram urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to respect the Peace Agreement signed at the Gombe State Police Command.

He appealed to all election participants to avoid actions that could disrupt the voting process and contribute to maintaining environmental peace.

REC expressed optimism that candidates and political parties would honor the commitments they made under the Peace Agreement.

He emphasized that cooperation among political actors, voters, security agencies, election officials and other stakeholders will be crucial to ensure that Saturday’s by-elections are held peacefully and orderly.
