Ogun Police Kill Two Suspected Kidnappers, Recover ₦2.2 Million Ransom and Rifle

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered ₦2.2 million believed to be ransom proceeds, along with a firearm, during a gunbattle with a criminal gang in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, stressing that the operation was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command following the kidnapping of a victim in Ogbe village on June 11, 2026.

He explained that police quickly deployed intelligence and tactical teams after the incident, leading to prolonged surveillance of the gang and increasing pressure on its members.

According to him, the victim was finally released unharmed on June 18, after which officers intensified efforts to trace the culprits.

Babaseyi said the breakthrough came when security agents, acting on credible intelligence, tracked the suspects to their hideout within the state.

He added that the suspects opened fire when they spotted the police team, resulting in a firefight.

“During the exchange, two of the alleged kidnappers were neutralized, while the other gang members escaped with gunshot wounds,” he said.

The police spokesperson said items recovered at the scene included a single-barreled pistol, a spent cartridge, a mobile phone and ₦2.2 million suspected to be kidnapping proceeds.

He added that efforts were underway to arrest the fleeing suspects and dismantle the gang.

The state’s police commissioner, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers for their courage and professionalism, describing the operation as a testament to the command’s determination to rid the state of violent crimes.

Ojajuni reiterated that Ogun will remain hostile to criminal elements, assuring residents that the Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led policing and strengthen community partnerships to safeguard lives and property.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to aid ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
