Sgfc light athletics exceeded the 36 Lion challenge to ensure the title of Jagaban Cup in Legacy Pitch on Thursday morning.
The four-day football tournament presented eight teams, with Ikorodu City of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) losing 1-0 against Ijebu United in the previous game of third place.
As expected, the final between the favorites of the 36 Lion and SGFC fans offered an exciting show, really reflecting the spirit of this popular basic football championship.
After an electrifying game that ended with a score of 0-0, the Sgfc team of the Nigeria Nationwide One One based in Ilorin emerged victorious, winning 5-4 in the penalty shooting to claim the trophy coveted.
In a post-match interview, the converse chief of the championship, Hajji Gafar Liamered, expressed his pleasure for the quality of the game and the discipline exposed by all the teams during the tournament.
Liampaed, which also acts as president of the Lagos State Football Association, shared his vision to improve the tournament in the future, confirming that the competition format will remain unchanged.
“This championship embodies the positive values associated with our esteemed president Bola Tinubu, in particular in terms of discipline, high moral standards and a commitment to enhance young people through football,” Hajji Gafar observed.
