TCN Introduces Load and Outage Analysis Platform to Strengthen Network Reliability

Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the launch of its new Load & Outage Analytics platform, a digital innovation designed to improve the visibility, monitoring and management of the national transmission network.

The inauguration took place at the TCN headquarters in Abuja on August 25, 2026, where management and staff witnessed a live demonstration of the system.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/CEO, Eng. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, represented by Eng. Aminu Tahir, general manager, program coordination, commended the operations department for developing the software in-house. He stressed that better load management and matching supply and demand are key to reducing disruptions, minimizing losses and strengthening grid stability.

Giving the technical presentation, Eng. Godwin Afamefuna Aguiyi, General Manager of Operations, highlighted the challenges of TCN’s current reliability reporting, including fragmented data, slow manual processes and inconsistent KPI calculations. He explained that the new platform, built on Streamlit with thirteen integrated modules, addresses these inefficiencies:

– Unified operations: Consolidate views of regions, stations, transformers, and power supplies for load analysis.

– Automated outage classification: Generate reliability KPI reports in minutes instead of days.

– Governance features: role-based access, structured uploads, and comprehensive audit trails to ensure accountability.

– Insights at the feeder level: identifying inefficiencies and losses, such as ₦720.33 million in July 2026 alone.

The platform also integrates the Fault Attribution Ratio (FAR), ensuring clear accountability between TCN and the distribution companies under the Service Level Agreement. The future implementation will enable monitoring of the Transmission Loss Factor (TLF), supporting regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Abiodun Afolabi-Fadahunsi, reaffirmed management’s commitment to providing engineers and system operators with the necessary tools to support the stability of the national grid.

The inauguration marks an important stage in TCN’s digital transformation journey. By replacing decades of manual reporting with real-time analytics, the platform is expected to save billions in lost revenue, strengthen accountability in the energy sector and position TCN as Africa’s data-driven transmission operator.
