The Mafia burns three for killing Plateau Monarch

No fewer than three people suspected to be linked to the killing of a traditional ruler in Langtang North local government area were burnt alive by an angry mob on Friday.

The incident followed the murder of the village head of Kwallak community, identified as Ponzhi Kwallak, who was reportedly attacked and killed at his residence on Thursday night.

Sources told PLATFORM TIMES that the attackers had broken into the monarch’s house, shot him and took away his motorbike and mobile phone, throwing the community into mourning and increasing tension.

Residents said the three suspects were later arrested by locals while they allegedly tried to sell the stolen motorcycle.

According to eyewitness accounts, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the murder before being attacked by the crowd.

It was learned that some youths initially attempted to hand over the suspects to the security agents, but the situation escalated when the hoodlums overpowered them, kidnapped the suspects and set them on fire near the local government secretariat.

A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said: “They were caught and confessed to the crime, but before they could be handed over to the authorities, the mob took over and burned them.”

At the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official confirmation from the police and other security agencies have been unsuccessful.

The latest incident highlights growing concerns over jungle justice and growing insecurity in parts of Plateau State, with stakeholders calling for restraint and respect for the rule of law.
