The PDP led by Turaki proposed Jonathan as a candidate in the 2027 elections

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki has decided to nominate former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate in the 2027 elections.

Former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, disclosed this to journalists shortly after the screening of the party’s candidates on Tuesday in Abuja.

Aliyu is a member of the Presidential Screening Committee appointed by the PDP Interim National Working Committee.

He said the committee had determined Jonathan as the party’s only presidential candidate in the ongoing screening process.

He explained that the party’s national leadership had granted Jonathan the necessary exemption to run in the primaries, and noted that the former president’s extensive experience left no room for him to be filtered any further.

“As is known, the party has given relief to presidential candidates. As I said at the beginning, he is deputy governor, governor, vice president and president.

“So, we don’t see anyone needing screening, that’s why the party has given him relief.

This means he has been declared the PDP candidate in the presidential election, the former governor said.

When asked by journalists to confirm whether Jonathan remains the only competitor on the platform, Aliyu answered “yes.”

He also revealed that similar administrative relief had been granted to former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Taofeek Arapaja, to contest the state governorship election.
