Heartland Fc of Owerri yesterday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium defeated Gateway Fc of Abeokuta 3-0 on matchday 16 of the Nigeria National League.

The match, which kicked off at 3pm, saw the home team touch the ball for the first time as the match kicked off.

The Naze millionaires took control of the match by going straight into business, dominating the game while the visitors were kept in their own half.

Moments later, in the 6th minute of the game, Charles Emmanuel clinically finished the opening of the curtain for the home boys.

The Abeokuta boys came out of their shell after conceding to increase the pressure needed against the home team, but Heartland Fc’s airtight defense truncated every move made in their vital area to cause damage.

In the 38th minute of the half, Udochukwu Anumudu with a pass from the left flank scored the second goal in favor of the home team while the visitors’ goal was caught napping in his area.

All efforts made by Gateway Fc to reduce the count proved futile until the referee blew the full-time whistle in the first half.

Gateway Fc kicked off the game for the second half and were more professional as they made several attempts with promising attacks against Heartland Fc but this did not give the Abeokuta boys much as they continued to struggle to get into the Naze Millionaires defense formation which held its ground and maintained the status quo.

The match became even more risky when it started raining heavily with a strong wind, but the two teams were up to the task showing extraordinary skills, footballing ability, distribution and quality ball possession.

Much later in the middle
Heartland Fc with another attempt managed to score 3 goals from scrum to take the match beyond the visitors.

Gateway Fc brought out their full arsenal to reduce the count, but the home team’s superior performances denied them the opportunity to do any damage until the referee signaled the end of the interesting and entertaining encounter.

Heartland Fc’s quest to gain promotion to the NPFL at the end of the season largely depends on their final 3 games in the league.
The teams will play away against Edel Fc and InterLagos respectively, with a home match against Crown Fc.
