APC sweeps Enugu North Senate and Kano Representatives by-election – THISAGE

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates the winners of two key by-elections held in Enugu and Kano states, in a decisive result that further reshaped representation in the National Assembly.

In Enugu State, INEC has declared Ikeje Asogwa of the APC as the winner of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election conducted to fill a vacant Senate seat.

Electoral officer, Professor Christian Ezeibe, who announced the result in the early hours of Sunday at the INEC headquarters in Nsukka Local Government Area, said Asogwa polled a total of 162,360 votes to defeat his nearest rival, Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 9,299 votes.

Seven political parties participated in the elections conducted to fill the senatorial seat left vacant following the death of former Senator Okey Ezea, who represented the district under the Labor Party before his demise.

Meanwhile, in Kano State, INEC also declared Shuaibu Rabiu of the APC as the winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election after polling 35,356 votes.

Rabiu defeated his closest challenger, Lawan Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who received 268 votes, in a contest that ended by a wide margin.

Both elections were held under the supervision of INEC to fill vacancies created by the death of incumbent legislators.
