German Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have begun preparations for the upcoming season where they will be under a new coach, Carles Martinez Novell, who was appointed to replace Kasper Hjulmand after a poor finish to last season, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The former Toulouse coach has started the process of preparing for the start of pre-season training, in addition to identifying objectives in the transfer window together with the club’s hierarchy.
According to what we gather, a decision has been made regarding Victor Boniface’s future following his return from a failed loan spell with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
He endured an injury at the club and finished the season with just two assists in 11 games. A streak that made the team rule out the option of signing him permanently.
With two years remaining on his contract, the club are exploring ways to release him for a minimal fee, with the idea of removing him from their wage bill key in their plans for next season.
In terms of objectives, the team’s defense is where the coach is looking to improve by bringing in more options, and Nigerian international defender Emmanuel Fernandez is among the club’s options.
Fernandez is said to be high on their list and Scottish side Rangers are open to his departure, but for a fee in excess of €30m.
