NFF confirms new faces for Super Eagles Unity Cup team

NFF General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi has revealed that there will be a significantly revamped Super Eagles team for the upcoming Unity Cup.

Sanusi confirmed that the team will primarily feature players from the domestic league, along with eligible players born in the diaspora.

He also noted that established veteran stars, including Victor Osimhen, will not be part of the squad for the Unity Cup.

“The essence of the Unity Cup every year is to ensure that we come together as a Nigerian team along with the teams that will play in that tournament and of course, look for players that will make up the Nigerian team.

“Having said that, what we hope is to see players of Nigerian origin, whether they play in Nigeria or outside Nigeria, for that competition.

“In Nigeria, if you look for talent, you discover one, but there are many others to discover.

“We have so many foreign-born Nigerians who will participate in the Unity Cup.

“You are likely to see local players, players who play in Nigeria alongside others who have not been called up for that competition before.

“You’re not likely to see people like Osimhen and the rest of them.”
