Financial Supervisors of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Lagos State Command, Aliyu Akadri, have issued a stern warning to the criminals who consider escaping from the country, which states that the effort is increasingly in vain due to increased border supervision and the placement of advanced security technology.
The contract gave a warning on Tuesday during the honorary visit to the Police Commissioner, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, at the Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos.
He noted that federal government investment in the modern supervision system and digital tracking devices had significantly increased service capacity to monitor and secure the Nigerian border.
“Once we get orders from the court that the criminal is desirable or someone is sought, we remain vigilant,” said Akadri. “The federal government has helped us in many ways, making our work very easy. It is impossible for a criminal to sneak abroad now because we have obtained a new system.”
He further emphasized that even people who tried to escape through unofficial or illegal routes would be captured, because NIS had intensified efforts to cover all gaps in border security architecture.
“Every villain who has a thought of running away from the country must be better to think again because he will definitely be arrested,” he warned.
The contract also underlines the importance of inter-institutional collaboration between NIS and the Nigerian police, highlighting that sharing intelligence and supporting each other is important for national security.
“We need our cooperation and collaboration. You cannot underestimate anyone. If there is an intelligence report that we collect from our end, I can easily send it to my brother here. And if there is something that can help the police, at least my brother can call me,” he said. “We work towards the same goal: to protect Nigeria.”
In response, CP Olohundare Jimoh praised the old cooperation between the two institutions and reiterated the readiness of the Lagos Police Command to deepen the inter-institutional collaboration with NIS.
“Nis and the police have worked together for a long time,” said CP Jimoh. “I want to convince you that during your term of office, we will strengthen a friendly working relationship to bring it to a higher level, to ensure we achieve the goals set by the government for us, especially in the internal security sector.”
He added that coordination and joint action between the two institutions would be the key to providing residents and visitors in Lagos with strong and responsive security.
“Working together, we will place coordination on the main stage to ensure that people and visitors and visitors are equally enjoying the best security cooperation between the two institutions,” said the police commissioner.
