
As part of efforts to curb smuggling activities and address challenges of economic sabotage in the country, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Command, Adamawa/Taraba State has seized donkey jerky, donkey skin, other contrabands and PMS with a duty-paid value of over 94 million Naira.
This disclosure was made by the new Customs Controller of the Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, Mohammed Abdullahi Mako, at a press conference in Yola on Wednesday.
He listed the seized items including 509 pieces of raw donkey hide, 460kg of dried donkey meat, 45 jumbo bags of second hand clothing, cartons of Viagra 200mg tablets, jerrycans and drums of PMS with a duty paid value of Ninety-Eight Million, Three Hundred and Seventy-Five Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty-Five Naira (No. 98,375,235.00).
He said they were seized in just 6 weeks.
He attributed the success of the operations to the commitment and resilience of the officers and men of the command, charging them not to relax their efforts to clear the area and the country of all smuggling activities.
The Comptroller also reiterated his commitment to crack down on all smuggling cartels under his command so that the nation’s economy can get a breath of fresh air.
He advised those involved in this act of sabotage to repent and embrace legitimate businesses in their own interest and for the betterment of the country, as there would be no hidden place for them.
He also commended the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his visionary leadership and other sister agencies, as well as the media and the general public for their support and collaboration which led to this success.
